    Name the Crimp.

I know the taper crimp & roll crimp. Last night, Big103 came over to learn some reloading techniques. He brought some Tokarev pistol ammo to show me.

The ammo uses 3 dimples on the case neck to hold the bullet in place. Tried to take pics but my camera won't do an in focus closeup.

Is there a specific name to that type of crimp?
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

I call it the 3-dimple crimp.

    What do I win

I don't know the real name, but a lot of old military ammo is crimped like this.

Yes there is a proper name for. Something like impact crimp or something. It is truly a military thing and does not improve the accuracy of the round.

Here is some more info about stab crimping.

                From here: http://www.frfrogspad.com/miscellg.htm
Stab or ring crimping, used only on jacketed ammunition, consists either several impressed dimples or a groove pressed into the case mouth by a collet. The crimp can either enter a groove on the bullet or can just be pressed into the bullet body (which distorts the bullet). It is primarily used on military or commercial heavy caliber hunting ammunition where rough handling may be encountered. It is the least conducive to accuracy.

You Da Man Bumpo! Big103 said it wasn't unusual for the case to split @ the dimples when shot.

Is it a bad photo or are those cases already cracking?

                      No problem, Bruce.

Nope, those are factory cracks. Some of the surplus Tok ammo out there is pretty bad.

I've never seen it as bad as the pic, but mine do tend to split after firing. I've been using the Polish stuff they sell at J&G Sales, btw.

Even with cracking like in the pic they will still shoot fine. Once they're chambered the cracks really make no difference unless they change the pressure of the crimp holding the bullet in place. Even that should be minor.

I've shot a lot of Surplus Tok like that.
