    38 & 357 Powders

About to load a bunch of 38 (1500) and 357 (500) I have plenty of Herco, Unique, Bullseye, 2400 and 231. Just curious what your favorite powder is?

I like 2400 for full powdered 357 loads.

For 38 target plinking Bullseye and Unique
      For 38 heavier loads Unique
For 357 my favorite would be the 2400 ( of the ones you listed)

Of your list, the only one I don't use for those calibers is Herco (not that there is anything wrong with it).

For magnum loads I favor AA#9, but also load 2400 and like it.

I only use Bullseye for light wadcutter target loads in .38 cases. W231 is my favorite for mid-range LSWC target loads for my 4" .357.

I am not a big fan of Unique, I used up the last of it a few months ago and will likely not be buying anymore, but that is just me.

I use Bullseye & Green Dot in .38 Special.

I've always used unique for 38's and 2400 for 357 and 44 Mag.

I'm currently trying to use up what's left of my Hodgdon's Universal. Loading up 38's at 4.6gr under a 158gr plated flat point Berry's.

It's not bad. I have a # each of Unique and Bullseye that's yet to be opened. Was thinking of saving them for my 40S&W loads (no particular reason, just cuz). Currently though my favorite powder is Titegroup. That's worked well with my 9mm, 45ACP, and the 100 or so 38 specials I loaded up.

W296 for 357 Magnum is very nice. Nice loud bang and fireball to really shake up the newbies at the range.

I use to use 231 for the .38 and .357 for light loads. 2400 for the heavy loads .357.

Nowadays I use Unique and 125 grainers for both calibers.

W231 for wadcutter type loads in .38 and .357.

                      Unique for heavy cast bullets.

                      2400 for hot magnum loads.

Can't go wrong with any of these.

I try to limit powder types by finding a one size fits all powder for pistol rounds from 9mm-44 magnum. I have found Universal Clays fits that bill nicely for plinking rounds.

For .38 Special I like Power Pistol ... because I can use it in my 9mm and my 40 S&W, too.

                          For 357 MAG, I like 2400.
