    Old Ammo?

I have some 25 year old Remington fully jacketed 45 caliber ammo. 3 boxes.
It's been inside the house the entire time. Climate controled.
I finally bought another 45 this week. Should the amo be good? Is there a way to tell?
    Thanks,
    Al

From what I know there isn't any way to tell from the exterior, mind you if under inspection you find that there is a lot of corrosion in spots you might want to avoid that. Check around the primer pockets that stuff being 80's ammo should not have had mercuric primers so the shelf life would be longer than if it did have mercuric primers. If they pass visual inspection take em to the range and see just remember if one fails to fire let it cool in the chamber for a couple minutes just to be safe incase of a hang fire.

Likely if it looks good, it is good -- I have reloads older than that that still go bang.

+1 to shoot it and the hang fire warning.
Wish I was rich instead of so damn good looking.

You should be fine. I shot some 30-30 from 1977 and it went bang perfectly fine. Just inspect the box and ammo for corrosion signs.

I've shot ammo from 1918 and it worked fine. 25 years is nothing for ammo that was stored properly.

I was just shooting some Lake City M1 carbine ammo dated 1953, as well as some paper hulled 12 guage shells.

                        Shoot it.

Surplus ammo is all much older than that and I've never thought twice about shooting it.
