    Question about tumbling

I've tumbled all my 30-06 shells and want to know if I have to clean out the cartridges 100% of all the media before I start to punch in new primers and pour gun powder.

Yes, make sure the flash hole is clear.

Which one is the flash hole? Is that the neck where the bullet sits in? How do I clean the inside of the case?

Yes, your goal should be to remove any and all media from your brass before you start your loading process.. I use this and it works great..

What's the best way to clean the inside of the brass of all the walnut media?

Assuming that no case prep is required on my part..

For target round ~ Well for me, I just pour my stuff from my vibrator to my separator, spin the handle a few times, both ways and start on my reloading.. But that’s just me..

For match rounds ~ I’ll turn the cartridge upside down and smack it a few times after I remove it from the separator its really not a big deal, IMO

If your asking if I look inside each case? Then the answer is no.. but please note that I don't de-prime and then tumble, if you do that, then yes you’ll need to review each and every primer pocket for media before your loading them up..

A little media wont hurt you or your gun so don't get to worked up about it.. Your concern should be your case prep, powder choice and weight, primers (hot or cold and or hard and soft) and of course your C.O.A.L. IMO..

If you need to perform case prep, IE

Pocket reaming / cleaning, case trimming, etc you’ll remove it all during that / those process..

            Hope that helps.

In my .308, if I shake the poop out of the freshly tumbled cases, I will get, at most, a couple granules of corn cob media stuck in there for every 20 cases or so... its worse if you tumble the cases after de-priming but I also ream the flash hole in all my brass each reload, that always clears out any residual media... I wouldn't worry about it.
