    Can/Does this work?

So i recently broke the decapping pin on my lee 223 resize/deprime die. It is completely worthless now untill i get a new decapping pin or so i thought. I bought the lee 223 deluxe package and it comes with a collet neck sizer die. That die resizes the neck and deprimes the case. So, what im thinking is wouldnt i be able to keep reloading but break the resize/deprime process into two processes? Use the collet die to resize the neck and deprime then use my resize/deprime die (that doesnt have a decapping pin anymore) to size the rest of the case?

Or you can cut off and use a drill bit for a pin while you wait for a real on to arrive, this has worked for me in the past. Then I got smart and decided to keep extra pins around.

Thanks for the idea! I ordered two pins a few days ago.

Same thing happened to me. I don't even know why they put decap pins on two dies.

About 10 years ago I bought the Lee Universal Decapping Die and a package of 10 replacement pins. I deprime as part of my brass sorting and inspection before cleaning.
After 10 years, I still have my universal decapping die and a package of 10 replacement pins.
I have never had media pack in the primer pocket or the flash hole, but if I did, I would think the decapper on the sizing die would take care of it.
I really recommend the Lee Decapping Die.
I had a mashed primer in a case and put it back on the sizing station. The pin in my Hornady sizing die broke. The die appears to be single unit and Hornady sent me a complete decapping spindle for free. The irritating part is that that was probably the FIRST time that decapper was ever used to deprime, and it BROKE.
I think that when I die, I will still have a package of 10 replacement pins for the Lee die...

The FL Die is used for initial sizing in some applications & the necksizing die (w/ decap) is used till the brass needs to be resized again. Neck sizing reduces brass wear. Some may get 3-5 reloads w/ necksizing before having to FL resize & trim again.

Generally, semi autos are FL & Bolts are neck-sized.

Oh, so you're saying they both have pins for those who don't FL & neck-size every time. Gotcha.

Ive done similar before. Decapped/Resized on station 1, then FL resize on station 2 (small base with no decapper). This made the neck a little smaller due to the lack of expander ball on the last resize. Just check for shaved jacket after seating. I had a few where the necks crushed in or ripped. See if you can still use the expander ball on the broken one...
