Did my first ever loading on a lee 1000 today!

I've never loaded before, but I figured if I can custom build a hotrod I can reload ammo.

Sure enough I can! I just started with a single case to figure out what was going on in the different steps, then worked up to doing a live round and voila! Ammo!

I think it took me two or three hours to understand it and dial things in.

Actually I broke that redonkulous beaded string too many times so I've got to find a workaround tilll I get another.

I read a bunch of threads of people saying get a single and understand it before goinv progressive, or a turret, and that's good advice. It wasn't rocket science to get it all going, except the primers befuddled me until I figured out how to seat them!

Now I'm going to see if the range is open to try out some of these bad boys!

Anyway thanks for the help, mostly lurking was all I needed.

I get it now, reloading is fun, I burnd 3 hours and thought it was one!

Good job! It isn't rocket science. Just follow the directions and be very observant on what is going on.

nice job. i started on a pro 1000 too.

progressive isn't good for everyone to start on, but it's not impossible.

just make sure you ALWAYS ALWAYS check to make sure there is powder in the case before you put the bullet on. as long as you're diligent about that you shouldn't run into any issues.

oh, and home depot sells like 6ft of chain. just look for it in the ceiling fan section

A small bungee cord is also good as a replacement for that chain. I still use the Home Depot ceiling fan chain, though. :-)

I am looking at the pro 1000 for .45acp. Does the pro 1000 come with everything you need?

Yes. Everything you need is in the box. You could buy some accessories like the case collator or bullet feeder, but not necessary.

                Awesome! Congrats!

I picked up a Pro 1000 last year or so, and since then have loaded many thousands. Can be kinda finicky, but once you get the routine, its pretty good. I like it. Couple suggestions I learned from mine....I replaced the bead chain with a small link chain and light weight tension spring because I was tired of breaking the bead chain. Also, keep the primer chute lubed up with graphite, and make sure the chute at least is full of primers for reliable feeding.

                Have fun!

Sorry don't mean to hijack just a couple more questions. Can you buy the components necessary to load other calibers (.223 .45 etc) with the lee 1000 or is it what you buy is what you get?

Yes you can buy all of the parts to convert caliber to any pistol caliber plus .223. No other rifle calibers are supported.

You'll need dies, shell plate, maybe some other stuff (e.g. primer system to handle large versus small)... The parts are all relatively cheap.
