    Need a good case lube

So im starting to reload 223 and I already load 218 bee. I use lees resizing lube on the 218 but I would like something better to load large amounts of 223 quickly. I already experimented with using motor oil but it doesn't wash out very well. Some of the cases end up with oil left inside or in the primer pocket and its a big hassle to clean them all again by hand. I got another idea of using laundry detergent. It should wash out better than the motor oil.

Anybody know any good lubing products sold exactly for resizing a lot and quickly? Or if you know of anything else that would work well?

the best lube is Imperial sizing wax but, it's slow to apply and needs to be wiped off. For bulk small stuff like .300WM on down, I use Hornady spray case lube.

For big batches of .223, I use the Dillon formula which is Lanolin mixed with 99% Isopropyl alcohol. Put them in a ziplock bag, spray it with the lube, mix thoroughly, then spread them out in a cardboard box or cookie sheet for the alcohol to dry off.

Bag Balm never fails, neither does STP motor oil additive, but you have to apply that stuff on one shell at a time with even coverage all the way down the case being more important than quantity.

i have applied Imperial sizing was to 500-1000 rounds at a time by placing them in a bus boy tub, putting some on my palms and picking handfuls of brass up, and squeezing through my hands. have done 4000 rounds like this, still have 40% of my $7 jar left. Randall said i still used too much. ymmv. but csacannoneer is a professor/scholar/expert on reloading. I am just a newb. really.

I'm far from an "expert". I just like to be self sufficient (to a certain point) and I'm too cheap to pay for others (including factories) to load ammo for me. I sure wish I could size 4000 pieces of 50 brass with one tub of Imperial. I probably get close to 1500 though.

Crisco and Burt's Bee's Hand Salve also make good case lubes.

Awesome! Thanks guys. The Hornady spray sounds like it might be what I need. Ill give everything a try though.

Imperial sizing wax and don't look back! I've done several thousand cases w/ 1 small tin. The best, use sparingly. I just touch a couple of fingers to it twirl the case in my fingers a couple of times and good to go. I don't wipe it off either, just use sparingly.

+2 on the Dillon lanolin spray lube. Works just as well as Imperial wax does IMHO and is way easy to use for large batch processing. Best of both worlds, good AND fast :-)

the method described by freonr22 works well. I have also used Purple synthetic racing motor oil. apply on one piece of brass and size 10-15 without having to re apply.
on a single stage, you can make pretty good progress.

Hornady One Shot works for me as well but i prefer Imperial over all.

Be sure to get complete 360 degree coverage with Hornady One Shot case lube. With .308, I only get really stiff resizing if I don't ensure 100% coverage, with .223, I ended up with stuck cases where the shell holder pulls right through the rim and you have to either pound the case out through the resizing pin (a couple of times) or send it back to the die company to get it removed (once).

I made some 100% lanolin/ alcohol spray lube that works great, put some brass in a bag with a few squirts of lube toss around and load into press no problems at all

I wouldn't recommend Hornady Spray (had a 223 stuck in die).. best would be the Dillon (after thousands.. no issue).. imperial is good too but time consuming

I've settled on Dillion's Spray Lube. Best I've used. I still use a case lube pad and spray one shot of Dillion lube onto the pad and roll the cases. One spray will lube many cases. I use a RCBS nylon case neck brush to lube the inside of the necks. I place the brush on the pad and lube both the pad and brush with one spray. RCBS brushes are available for several calibers and screw into the handle.

I like the One Shot spray, but, you have to apply liberally and let it dry. I've used the Lee stuff in the tube, wiping it on with my fingers, it works fantastic but its very slow if doing a large number of cases, that's where the spray wins. I just use a plastic bin, throw a bunch of cases in it, spray like crazy, shake the bin up, spray again, let dry.
