Has anyone heard anything about the 3 main ammo companies restricting their sales to LE/GOV only come first of the year? That includes Winchester, Federal and Remington. And the calibers they are talking about restricting are 9MM / 38 / 45ACP / 223 & 308 . I keep hearing this from different people and I now wonder should I be stocking up on what ever sales I can find.

Restricted ammo sales

It sounds like the usual rumor mongering. Somebody was worried about the amount of ammo being used right now in the sandbox and started one of those "what ifs" and then people keep repeating it and adding different cartridges to it.
Why would they restrict sales of 38 ammo? No one uses it in any volume in the military or LE.
I heard that on January 1, 2000 all airplanes would fall out of the sky, all the cars would stop working and all automated machinery would grind to a halt, from thousands of people.Frank

Carbide dies are only good for pistol ammo, you still need lube for rifle ammo.Just get carbide dies
I use carbude dies and still use lube, but then in a progressive, anything to keep the machine going fast with little effort the better. Ever try to size once fired 40's from a Glock without lube? We are talking a large forearm muscle after a while and tendonitus after several years.. not fun..
I've not heard these same rumors.. I must not hang out in the right circles..Comment

Haven't heard of any upcoming restrictions but with how fast the prices have been jumping, it's a good idea to stock up on what ever you can find anyhow. A few years ago I'd purchase a few boxes at a time. Now it's a few cases at a time. 556 by the case, if you can find it, has almost doubled in a little less than a year. I don't like the thought of a trip to the range costing me $200 worth of ammo everytime I go (~$1 a shot).
Reloading is becoming more and more appealing to me...

Make your own load your own. Same thing different story.
I used to shoot speer 170grn and 150 grn out of my 30-30. then i got into lead casting. At first i was always trying to match the performance and speed of a jacketed with out lead fouling the barrel. Then one day i talked to someone and then it all switched. I started shooting more cowboy loads. All of my shooting is range shooting. Now im not trying to shoot at 400 yards. However i am trying to shoot accuratly. I have learned on how to reduce my charge using less gun powder shooting lead cast. With great performance. Now a days i match the bullet to the target distance as well as past performance. When you learn how to do this and start practicing you can wind up saving a lot of money and learn how to shoot accurately.
Just today i was shooting 150 cast lead. With 17 grains of h4895. It was a light load however it was fun and accurate to shoot. I even had my 8 year old shooting my 30-30. We were shooting at 50 yards for an 8 year old he was doing pretty good. a few people were suprised to see and 8 year old shooting a 30-30. Then when they heard the sound they were all asking what was he shooting. Then when they heard what the cost of a box of 50 cost me to make they all took an interest.
So its not always about how big of a bullet you can pack and how much powder you can stuff. but what is the best combination that you can come up with.sigpicComment
