    9mm die set question

Any reason why the Lee set is about $30 and all theothers (RCBS, Lyman, Hornady) are $45-$55? Is the Lee set lessor quality?

Seems strange that everybody else is 50% more.

I've had good experience with all of my LEE dies. I got my 4-die carbide sets for about $40. Maybe you're looking at the 3-die set.

I use the Lee 4-die carbide set and works fine. Consistent enough for me.

All my dies are made by Lee, haven't been disappointed yet!
What made me buy them was the price and the reviews.

Yeah, I believe the 3-die sets don't come with the LEE Factory Crimp Die, which is why those sets would be cheaper. I think they instead come with a seating die that also taper roll crimps.

Lee carbide dies are a bargain, simple as that. Plus they come with a little bit of data and a shell holder.

Very seldom in life can you get more for less. Lee dies are one of these rare examples.

I'm not going to argue that they are better than the other brands at all, but they do get the job done for a much lower price.

I'll remain a Lee fan as long as they keep making affordable dies and their Classic Turret.

You cannot go wrong with Lee dies. I'm still using the 38 spl die set that I purchased back in 92' and have loaded tons of rounds. The 9mm die set I purchased back in 94' still going strong and also loaded lots of rounds.

I have a set of .40 lee dies i bought, then was given a set of RCBS by a friend who insisted I would "see the light" on how much better they were. Used them for one run, but the RCBS ones are sitting in the closet, honestly. My Lee set was producing more consistent ammo with my setup, which is a Lee press. I also had more trouble setting up the RCBS ones.

Nothing wrong with the Lee pistol dies.

Sounds like Lee wants to undercut the competition with an equally solid product. I'll give them a try.

Is the 4-die with crimp strongly suggested or is the 3-die just as well?

Personally, it's all I've ever used after seeing many people recommended it.

the only thing that i dont like is the floating expander plug

what i do is put a socket in there and tighten it up so its solid

The 4th die is useless. Just get the 3 die set.

I have Lee, RCBS and Hornady dies. Lee are great and easily as high quality as either of the others. Hornady dies that I have have some nice features in rifle dies but for pistol I prefer lee. Their factory crimp dies are awesome for heavy recoiling rounds. RCBS are my favorite though, mostly because their service department has always been so awesome to me with the shipping out replacement parts. I've never broken a lee part.

                              here's my die drawer
