    Progressive!

Got my new Hornady Lock n Load progressive set up and running. Busted out 300 9mm and LOVE IT!

Gone are the days of single stage and the huge time commitment required.

That's all, just happy and wanted to post.

Congrats, just got my LnL set up too. I felt the same way when I bought my Dillon XL-650 after using a Lee turret press for a year and a half.

'Grats on the LnL! Now you gotta make time to hit the range and make lots of empties. Shooting sure does get in the way of reloading!

I have been using a Lyman turrent and/or a Lee single since about 1991. Before that, I used my father's Pacific single stage. I have literally doing one operation at a time since about 1978 or so.

          I was due.....

          .....Now I am happy.

Out of curiosity, how long did take to do the 300?

The first 50 was about an hour (learning curve you know) and the next 250 in an hour. I timed myself from loading 100 primers in the tube to the next primer reload (100 rounds made), and it took 23 minutes. I figure that I can average about 250 an hour pretty easy.

Yep, there's a lot of merit to using a progressive. They are easily capable of pumping out 300 boxed rounds of ammo after a single hour on the bench. Congrats!

                            $$$$$$$$$

I've cranked out a ton of rounds on my Lee Load Master this week. Only part I don't like is the primer system. I've gone through 2 primer sliders this week and now I'm down to hand priming until replacement parts get here.

I bought a lee 4 stage turret press when I started reloading, probably about 3-4 years ago (wow, I'm only 23) and after about a year of loading on it reloading stopped being fun. I was spending all my free time trying to pump out rounds and I was going through them faster than I could make them.

I bought the Dillon a year after (three years ago) because "its the best" as people say and figured it would get me going quick and easy. As time went on I was getting increasingly more frustrated with the caliber changes. Getting the powder safety rod adjusted, getting the powder measure die taken apart to switch powder bars, adjusting the powder die height for the right caliber, taking apart the primer mechanism to change out the primer carousel, taking apart the primer punch.... ughh. Then you get it all set up and get ready to deal with all the powder that drops out of the casings as the press indexes when using a powder that almost fills the case getting all over the place and under the shell plate.

Could I have fixed these things with more time and more money? Sure, three hundred plus dollars to get powder measures and powder through dies for the 3 other calibers I reloaded for. Bringing total investment into the $1,900 range.

I talked with a couple of handloaders who had LnL's and voiced my frustrations. They told me I would have a much better time with the LnL AP doing all the things I was tired of dealing with. Couple that with the lower prices. Done deal.

Now that I have one... (a 4XX serial one mind you, the most outdated one you can get I'm sure) I have been COMPLETELY happy. Caliber changes are a breeze between different primer types and calibers. Indexing on the up and down stroke have NOT spilled powder, and there's not much to gum up. Not to mention the retention spring is MUCH better than Dillon's locater pins. I've saved so much time and money on this thing.

"but there's Dillons customer service, it cant be beat, right!?" Eh, I've payed less and still had Hornady replace parts for my old as dirt press no charge.

tl:dr - Dillon sucked for me, Hornady is better for me.
