    .308 loading question

Me and my father are loading 175 gr HPBT using varget powder.

Any suggestions for the amount of powder?

This is for precision shooting out to 600 yards

    Thanks!

That's 42 grains to start for a velocity of 2583 fps, up to 45 grains (which will be a compressed load) for 2690 fps at a pressure of 48,600 CUP

The sweet spot for that round and powder is usually between 43.5 - 44gr Varget in a bolt gun. Not sure about a semi. I load that 0.02 off the lands and is a sub .5 moa load.

I think most of the load data is gathered using Winchester brass, remember to factor in what what type of case you are loading for. I back off at least 1.5 grains when using lake city brass.

Agree. Load up 10 rounds each of different loads & see how they group.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Not trying to be a jerk but your question kinda worries me. How experienced are you on reloading? If it's limited please get a manual and read it. If not then carry-on.

You can find good reading on 308 load here:
