    38+P IS A 357 ??

in comparing ammo lately, of the 38+p vs. the 357.....am i interpreting correctly that the 38+p IS a ultralite 357?? the specs of the rounds that i am looking at, EXCEED that of 80% of the 357 rounds. i was interested in a 357 j frame, but after looking at the ammo, would i be better off with the +p as my ccw ??

There's nothing wrong with +p as carry ammo, but the best 357 is better than the best 38spl +p.

If you want the largest advantage, 357 beats +p.

Also, not sure if you already have the gun, but J-frames chambered in 357 are very heavy. Not the most comfortable to conceal. But it is cool to be able to shoot such a powerful round in such a tiny package. Here's my Model 60, and those are 38spl +p's. They are plenty powerful for my needs, but it is nice to be able to shoot full powered 357's if I want to.

340pd, 340m&p, and 360pd are all super light (11 to 13oz.), conceal well and are fun to shoot.

        2 out of 3 isn't bad!

I would say .38spl +P+ would come close to a light .357 mag load. As XD stated nothing wrong with +P. There are good selection of +P out in the market. That is what I keep loaded in all of my wheelguns for home protection.

XD nice pic of your baby by the way. Nice touch of white background to bring out the beauty of the 60.

38 Spl +P is SAAMI rated for a max pressure of 18,500 psi. 357 Mag is SAMMI rated for a max pressure of 40,000 psi.

In a light snubnose, I wouldn't want to shoot .357M. I'd recommend .38 Spl +P, as that is quite enough power to stop a BG. The other thing is that with .38 Spl +P, you will actually want to go to the range to practice, because your hand will not be screaming "OOOWWWW!!!!" at you after a box of 50 rounds.

357 does beat 38+p. And as far as the guns go Smith & Wesson makes the light weight champ so far, however I have shot one and they are brutal. I opted for the Ruger LCR 357. It only weighs a few ounces more but it controls recoil so much better. I actually enjoyed shooting an entire box of 357 ammo through it on Friday. Very nice little gun!
