    Dings on brass

I know some small amount of dings are unavoidable on brass and they are fine for reloading. But what is considered excessive dings... I checked the reloading manual, and it only talks about the bigger defects ... nothing about "dings".

A ding would be small. So an excessive ding would be?

For me dings in the body are ok but not on the shoulder. Any kind of sharp crease I scrap them as well since cases tend to burst at hot spots.

If it is so "dinged" it won't fit in the chamber, I don't use it --

Usually not a problem. A little too much sizing wax and you'll get dents on shoulders. Or if it's from a semiauto, there may be some dents in the body of the case.

Unless the case is compromised or the dent is so large as to impact the interior space, usually good to go. Those dents and dings will blow right out when fired as the case conforms to the chamber shape.

I got a grain of tumbling media in my sizing die once and dented a few shoulders, loaded and fired them all and they were fine.

ok. I went ahead and test fired 30 of my brass that have small dings on the case body. They fired fine and I checked the casings after that and they do look better than before firing. Most of the dings on the case body were "smoothed" out by the pressure during firing.
