Pretty much any factory hollow point should do. Test some in your gun to make sure they feed reliably. Do not use RELOADS for HD.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

I would either use this: http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/produc...low-point-ammo

I decided to not unload and reload one of my .45 mags of the hd ammo i had in it, i instead used reloads i had bought since i liked having my mags ready for the next trip after a day at the range. I have shot over 1,000 of these rrloads with 0 issues so decided it was good to go (.45 acp fmj 230gr ball).

Do u mean not to use reloads for hd because of failure or defect risk?

Ive also read not to load or reload your own defense ammo since a lawyer may allege u loaded a super deadly round that made their clients loved one more dead when you shot him.

Op since u say u r new, i will assume u are asking about storebought defense rounds. What caliber you got?
For the 9mm i use 124 grain winchester pdx1 bonded +p in first mag, two other mags with 115gr jhp
For the .45 i used to have one mag with remington jhp although the pdx1 is also available i. .45 +p. They are pricy though.
I have since gone with 230grn fmj ball reloads in 4 mags so they are ready when i go to the range. I dont care that a jhp makes the .45 expand to a .50. Its a proven round in .45 fmj ball.

Ah. In my case i got reloads that i purchased, not loaded myself. I also read its not good to load and unload the same bullets time and time again. As in if shooting reloads but keeping factory ammo in your hd mags.

Seems dumb, and cannot that allegation be invalidated if you load to grain and velocities the same as factory produced?

I am talking about store bought defense rounds, I have Fnp .40. I right now i have some 165 grain full metal jacket target rounds, But i am afraid that go through to many walls.

I dont think jhp vs fmj on a .40 will make much of a diference on drywall penetration. Maybe marginal, but its still going about 1200 fps

Do you mean overpenetration after a body hit? Or in case of a miss?
On the first one, yes it would make a diference, at least it should if everything goes as it should.

5/8" drywall will not stop a bullet, fmj or jhp. Its going through unless it hits a stud or beam or something.

If you miss with anything capable of stopping someone from killing you, it WILL go through a wall. You will not find this "magic" round that doesn't penetrate a thin piece of flimsy drywall, but will somehow punch into a person and disable them.

My opinion is to find lanes in your house that would be least bad to fire through if you miss and practice aiming down those, and hope that when someone breaks in, they will cross one of those lanes so that you don't accidentally hit a family member or neighbor.

As for my opinion on .40 S&W HD/SD ammo, I like the Ranger T series in either 180gr or 165gr.
