    Ammo Cans

I need ammo cans. I am NOT a fan of milsurp metal cans. I want some reinforced plastic cans. I have been looking at the MTM cans and found the Cablela's branded one but none look like that are as long term durable as I think I want.

    Other suggestions?

MTM cans are good. I got a few off Amazon and they hold up pretty well.

+1 on the MTM's. But I'm cheap & use the metal cans!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I got a couple of the Cabelas with ammo orders over the years. I needed a few more ammo cans and found the Cabels's on sale right now for like $8 each and the shipping was pretty cheap too.

They are not as stout as my Mil-Surp cans but for $8, they are good enough.

        Good luck on your search.

I've got a couple of the Cabela's plastic cans they throw in free with bulk ammo orders. They are a nice size, larger then standard milsurp metal ones. They aren't built very strong, but will hold my 200# carcass up as long as I'm careful when sitting on it. I think they normally run about $15 or so, not worth it IMHO...but for $8 they'll be OK. When loaded with a days worth of ammo they will distort a bit, I wouldn't depend on them to be water tight...just a handy storage and transport container.

The Cabela cans are strong enough for plastic but my chief complaint is the crappy seal on the lid. Works well otherwise. What are you gonna store?

BTW why don't you like the metal ammo cans? Just curious.

I need to get this small amount out of my dining room and in to some storage containers for the garage.

Any millsurp metal boxes I have come across are always banged up. Have loose fits and rattle around. I dunno. Personal preference I suppose.

Well if that's all it is, then get some of these:

These cans are in great shape, Some minor paint wear on the edges from rubbing together during shipping. You may find one or two with a few small dings in them but overall these cans are in great condition. Our Grade A cans have excellent seals in them. You can't find 30 cal ammo cans in better shape than these.
You can get 9 "grade A" 30-cal ammo cans with desiccant packs for under $100 delivered (about $11 each).

SpeedFreak, where did you get those clear cases? I've been considering doing loose storage in my plastic Plano ammo boxes, but I like those.......

I think I would go with the Cabela’s cans, they are on sale right now! and you will not get those plastic boxes to stack sufficiently in a 50 mm metal can.

Maybe if those are 9mm rds.

                      I understand the attraction, but...

I used to use 50 or 100 count ammo boxes for handgun ammo.

For revolvers I guess it is OK, but for anything with a magazine, I like loose storage in a ziplock back. Just reaching in for a handfull when loading mags seems more efficient to me. I like all the neat stacks of filled plastic boxes, but in reality a baggie is better, at least to me...

I know Berrys Manufacturing has some .30cal plastic cans which I will buy one soon to try it out.

What I love about plastic ammo can is that they are supposed to be lighter, less sound produced when being carried from one place to another, and rust proof. I personally HATE touching rusts for some reason. I painted my surplus ammo cans but I'm not satisfied with the results.

But as Fyathyrio said, plastic ammo cans are likely to distort and lose its airtight and waterproof capability. I will have to test them out to see how they will perform. I don't expect them to pass the drop test because they are made of plastic. The lid will probably pop off.

Berry's Mfg 50 round clear ammo boxes. I bought two 50 box selections. Ended up only being $0.87 each. So, now I will put these 50 round boxes into ammo cans for storage.

Bud's has the MTM ammo cans for like $13 so I ordered 10. I will get to play the how many 50 round boxes fit in each ammo can game when I get the them.
