Does anyone have any experience with it? I got some for a .40 semi-auto for on some trails and wanted to know if it was worth the $12.99 or if it was a waste. In theory it seems like a great idea but...... Also will it caUse any damage to the barrel of my firearm? Thanks for the input!

Actually great for snakes rats and mice...other small varmints.
Will not damage your firearm -
it will work, i tested some out with my .45 3" barrel to see the pattern, i was using a really thick/hard poster board for this, at 15 feet it left 1 foot pattern, at 5 feet the pattern was 6-8 inches but the plug put a hole in the poster board, then looking at the backside of the poster board, it was shreded.
it did cycle in my .45 just fine.Comment

I shot some .22 snake shot last week in a revolver. @ 7 yds, I was impressed with the pattern on a cardboard target. The shot is all lead. No Problem.Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...
I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.
Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

22lr good up to 5ft
9mm good up to 5ft
.40 s&w good between 5-7ft
.45 good up to 10ft
in conclusion don't use cci shot shells smaller than .40s&w cause they will not cycle.

Just test some through to know how your gun handles it.
It may not cycle perfectly, but the way I see it is "big deal, just manually cycle if a stovepipe occurs". Afterall it's just a snake, not a zombie.
However, I haven't considered zombie snakes. We are all screwed on that one.Comment

I load snakeshot (lead-free) and it's a pretty simple rule. Maximize the shot, minimize the powder. If I remember correctly (ie, don't trust this info, go verify it), fast burning low energy powder is best. Basically super-duper reduced loads. Push it hard, the groups are supposed to open up.
Those CCI caps are great since you can pack more shot in there beyond the brass.

This is all revolver stuff, I know nothing about making it work in a semi-auto.Comment

Thanks guys just been doing a lot of hiking with the kids in rattler areas and wanted to know how they work and if I would damage the barrel of my gun? Last time out we saw 2 luckily one far enough away and one sleeping unde a rockA peace sign is really only a middle finger and a trigger finger away---- Think about it!

I prefer using it in revolvers so that I don't have to worry about it cycling or ejecting. In other words, I do not use nor recommend using it in any semi auto. Every one I have tried has problems at some point. That said, it does not damage your barrel and it works great on snakes. I have taken to loading my own in .38 and .44 mag. For hunting in condor areas, I use steel shot. Also, .22lr is actually good to about 15-20 feet if fired from a routledge barrel. Well, good for breaking the special routledge clays anyways. Many garden guns in europe are chambered for 9mm shotshells and are effective enough for pest control at longer distances than 5-7 feet. Again, I'd think 15-20 feet will still kill a mouse.Last edited by CSACANNONEER; 09-06-2011, 9:45 PM.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Any recommendations for over powder wads? Is thin cardboard good enough? I have a dream of 5-ish grains of trailboss or so in a 460 S&W casing, some sort of wad, then enough shot to fill the case to .3 inches from the top or so, then use a CCI shot cup to add another 120 grains of steel shot beyond the brass. Something like 300 grains of shot or so in an attempt to just plain overkill the concept.
I've only used cci cups though, so I don't know:
a) if 150-200 grains of shot on a wad loose is enough to "compress" the trailboss without intention, and
b) reasonable over powder wad materials used for these apps.Comment
