    NOT digging Varget anymore...

    Now loving Varget!

Had some really good low velocity loads that I had worked up, with some great groups. Now have some big boy loads worked up and really happy. I can now tweak these in (hopefully on a non windy day...unlike today)

What's really kinda strange and worked out great...My Tikka .223 really likes 75gr Black Hills (blue box). So, I took one apart, weighed the powder, got the brass length and COL. It was a ball powder, which I do not have any of. So, I loaded the exact charge in Varget (23.5gr) and COL: 2.242 and a Horn 75gr BTHP....I guess I ended up really lucky, as it shoots like a champ! It also likes same set up with 23gr of Varget.

I came home (from range) to 8lbs of Varget and 500 Sierra 77gr (SMK) bullets...Tops off a great day!

Thanks for the help and suggestions...Much appreciated.

Below (I believe) was a flyer...going to try this load again of H4895 and 178gr A Max-

Varget is great powder. Keep playing with it and I'm sure that it will get even better.

Buy a pound of Ramshot TAC and compare accuracy with same bullets. I find on my AR w/16inch barrel and 1/9 twist that TAC is as good if not better depending on the individual bullet used in the load.

I'm confused, your title says you aren't digging Varget anymore, but your post says you like it. Which is it?

Ah, that makes sense. I was missing the context.

                  Try XBR.

For me XBR cut my group size in half from my varget load. Its worth 20 dollars for 1lb to see if they get better. I think xbr is the best powder going.

If this is the same stuff(?)
Hodgdon Powder Co. has unveiled a brand new powder, IMR 8208 XBR. From early reports, this is an exceptional new propellant that may change the way the game is played in short-range benchrest.

I might give it a try + it's one of the powders listed in the Hornady 8th.

You guys shoot great, If I could not get inside that dime, I doubt it would be due to the powder, most likely my gun or the shooter.

Doh, just ran out of varget loading some 7.62x54r.... Man that stuff takes a ton of powder.
