Hornady LNL AP 9mm case hitting bottom of PTX

Ok, started to have an issue with the Hornady LNL AP.

When doing my 9mm, 1 out of 25ish cases will hit the PTX expander and interrupt the process. It is just off slightly, but more than enough to mess up any rhythm.

Which part do I need to adjust? The shell plate is fully indexed and locked in so it doesn't sound like the pawl.

How tight do you have your shellplate bolt? I found that if I was running the press with that bolt too tight, I get an occasional "partial shellplate rotation" causing the symptoms you describe. I either finger-tighten the hell out of the bolt, or finger snug the bolt and then give it a TINY tightening with the allen wrench. Seems to work like a charm now.

Also, make sure you don't have any powder granules underneath the shellplate, or any other debris that could interfere with shellplate rotation.

I had a similar problem w/ my ptx expander although it was more like 1 in 10 cases this was happening to. Called up Hornady, they walked me through a small pawl adjustment, and hasn't happened since.

It's a pawl adjustment. Easy to fix. Call Hornady and they will talk you through the adjustment.

Will do, I'll call them up when my press comes back from Hornady.

They sent me a new sub plate since I was having issues with crooked brass in station 5. Those hex screws took a impack wrench to get them out. While "trying" to remove it, one of the hex screws stripped. I tried to get it out with a screw extractor and it just snapped in there. My press is out of action for a few weeks it seems like. All these issues one after another, it makes me think I should have just gone blue.

Don't give up on the press just yet. Hopefully, Hornady will make it right and
fix or replace your troubled press, I have both a Dillon XL 650 and a Hornady
LnL (bought the Hornady first, then was offered a killer deal on the 650 from
              my cousin).

While the Hornady takes more time to setup and get dialled in, once you
have it set, it's a damned good and trouble-free press. I can get
the same output and quality of ammunition on both presses with the same amount of ease (or hassle). There are some "standard" issues that you have to overcome, but they're all very manageable.

Let us know how it goes when you get the press back from Hornady!

I agree on the Hornaday CS. I bought one of their small M2 tumblers about a year and a half ago. I noticed it was beginning to make some light buzzing noise (it had been pretty silent until a few weeks ago). I emailed their CS and asked if it was possible to buy a replacement motor (as I had speculated the motor's bearings were going bad).

They replied with an RMA number and instructions to send it back for a look. I got an email when it arrived and also one when they shipped it back. A few days later a brand new tumbler arrived. Replacing an electric powered appliance which is designed to vibrate itself apart... after more than a year of constant operation. Wow!

I don't hesitate to buy anything I need that is Hornaday.

Doh! Sorry to hear you are having some issues with your LNL. They will take care of you. I had to "learn" my press and fiddle with this and that for a bit, but once you dial it in, they truely run great!
