    Neck sizing vs. FL sizing

So I'm sure this question has been asked here before. But here it is again. Neck sizing vs. Full length sizing?

I am reloading a variety of cases; .223, .270, .308, .338 rum. Is neck sizing these cases recommended? Will this preserve case life and give a better fit in the chamber of the rifle in which the case was fired in? Should .223 for the AR always be FL sized?

If you are shooting those calibers you stated in a bolt action, pump, or single shot, yes you can neck size. Semi often need to be full length sized.

The 308 is a Browning BLR. I have been using a short based full length die for that rifle.

^ Yes. Semi auto's. FL size, then trim once .010-.020 under & FL size each reload, till they split. (generally)

Single shots. Trim .010 under. Shoot once. Then neck size & reload till they need trimming again.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

I do not neck size for semi-autos, pumps or lever guns. I do neck only size for bolt guns. Just remember, you can neck size a few times, but you will have to F/L at some point.

Over the years, I've had to hammer the bolt open a number of times on neck only sized brass that got a little too big. I just had one a few weeks ago on a tight chamber rifle.

I will never neck size only for ammunition that will be used for hunting or for
          SHTF.

FL for semi auto rifles or pistols. Or first time brass.

Neck size for bolt action once fired brass from that same rifle.
