    Powder question

Hi folks for my birthday I was given Barnes triple shock x bullets and Hornaday interlock. Both are 180 grain. Is there a powder that will work with both bullets. I am a new reloader and thought this would be the best place to start
    Thanks Calgunners

First I would buy a reloading manual. You say they are 180gr but what will you shoot them out of? What is the barrel length on you rifle? Will you use them for hunting or target? Are they .308", for a .308Win, .300WinMag, .300Wby, etc... These are all thing you need to know before you choose the best powder.

I should have been more specific. I shoot a J.C Higgings Model 50 30-06 (308) for pig hunting.. I need to grab it fron storage to get barrel length not sure if I can find twist. but I will scratch around

if they are both 180grn and for 30-06 you can use the same powder for both, no problem there. but the barnes tsx will want to be faster.

            google says

barrel is 22 inches long and has a Chrome lined Barrel and a 1 in 10" twist

My son in law and I both use Re-loader 15 for 308 and 30-06 165-168gr hornady or sierra bullet. Should handle 180grs as well. Check your book. the Reloader powders are very consistent over different temp ranges.

IMR4064 has been good for me as well as IMR4895. I am stuck in port here in Washington so I do not have my books with me.

In the 30/06 with 180 gr. bullets, powders in the slower category, such as 4350, Re-19, or IMR 4831. IMR or Hodgdon 4350 work well with 180 gr. bullets and will usually give a little higher velocity than with medium powders. 4064/4895 will work fine, just a little less velocity.

If I were to pick a powder for 180 Gr. bullets, I'd go with H-4350 (less temperature sensitive and will flow a little better in a powder hopper).
