Well...had some time to get out and test some loads. Nothing shot as well as the 39.4grs of Varget (1st post). Seems to like the 43.5gr of Varget the best out of this round. #2, #4 and #5 look to have some potential. #2 I'd like to think that's a flyer and will try this load out again. (this is all at 100yrds, bench and bi-pod..no rear rest)

#8 is a 178gr A Max, which shot fairly well out of the 1/12" twist. Another to experiment with.

I think I might also try and a light crimp and see how that works out.

Varget is a good powder but XBR is the cats meow! XBR will cut any group you have by 1/2. XBR is an extreme powder that is super clean. I cannot say enough about xbr. I moved from varget to xbr and my groups cut more then in half. I have read plenty of stories about XBR doing the same thing for others as well.

My 308 load for xbr is

        42.5grs XBR
        CCI BR primer LR
        LC 05 brass
        Amax 168gr projectile
        Brass trimmed to 2.00
        COAL 2.805

        5 @100 in 15mph gusting through an LMT 308

Nice groups! I just bought a 8lb'er of Varget. But, I may try a 1lb of the XBR down the road. I think I hit pay day on the Varget today, so happy with that

I have some H4895...which I believe is fasting burning than the IMR4895. Pulled some good low velocity loads with it. Will work up some higher velocity with the H4895...but, I'm pretty happy with today's Varget loads

Varget is great powder. It's all that I run in my 308 and 223.
