    Brass case head split. (Pictured)

I went with a few friends to the range yesterday. My friend was shooting his dad's Berreta 92f. He called me over said he was having a hard time with the sights. He was shooting way to the left. So I gave her a try....... I saw sparks going my way, and the brass was stove piped in the chamber. This is how the brass looks like:

You can clearly see the bulge and where the split happened. My friend does not know if the ammo are factory or reload.

Wow! Glad nobody got hurt. You can see the outline of the feed ramp that got imprinted on the brass and thats telling me it might have been a hot load. Looking at the primer pocket rim, it looks like the primer pocket was reamed out to remove the primer crimp or to make it so primers are more inserted easy using progressive reloading equipment. I cant remember if Federal ever used a crimped in primer on 9mm ammo though. I suspect a hot load with a piece of overly reloaded brass....
