New to reloading. Powder suggestions?

have just purchased a Hornady LNL kit. I will be loading .308 for a remington 700 police.

Planning on shooting out to 800 yards max for now.

suggestions on what powder to use?

Varget.

Also BL-C(2) and IMR 4064 work pretty good in my 700 5R.

What bullet are you using? I've had good luck with VV N140 under the 168 gr SMK or 175 gr SMK.

Varget is the most versatile rifle powder for a lot of us reloaders, I use it in .308 and am very happy. I like the Berger 168gr VLD bullets.

Varget under a 168gr SMK or 178gr A-Max. Easily capable of sub .5 moa in your rifle

The poor part is that it meters like crapola. I single stage load it, so not really an issue.

Powdervalley generally has the best prices. But you also need to figure in shipping and hazmat. Get yourself 20# of powder and some primers, and you are looking at $50 in just getting it to your door.

I like Cabelas for just about everything reloading...but, I'll try powder valley next. Also, I am using H4895 and Varget for .223 and .308. I am seeing Varget with a little tighter groups. I'm also runninng heavier bullets though >>> 68-75gr for .223 & 168-178gr in .308

local to you and almost as good as internet pricing on most of thier stuff(better for hazmat stuff well untill you start ordering 8lb kegs and cases of primers). not too mention a few really laid back knowledgable guys there.

In the end, you'll have to try them all to see which one works best in your gun, with your bullets at this point in your barrel's life. In a few thousand rounds, things could change a little.
