    Question about Brass

I had one of the most terible days in my life yesterday So to keep my mind from worry overload, I decided to sort brass. My question is what caused the 45 cases to have a slight *pinch* on their mouth. This brass was either fired by my 45's or a friends. And is this safe to reload? Any input thanks.

Not sure what you mean by pinch? Run one through the reloading process.

If you can get a pic it would make it a lot easier to help you out.

Once you put it through the full-length resizing die, it should be okay.

Are either one of them GI versions with the higher ejection port? As stated the resizing dies should take care of the problem.

Yes one of the pistols was a springfield champion. I don't know how to post pictures. If i did bandwith here would hurt. What I mean about the brass is, there is a slight scrape on the side where the case is crimped on one side.(extractor maybe) Some of this brass is reloads and new mixed in. Txs for the responses.

Hope your kid recovers. Stuff can be replaced.

As far as brass, if it's not a hard crease & it fits into the sizer/decapping die it gets reloaded.

I hate hearing stuff like that. Wish you and yours the best.

As for the brass, the sizing die should iron it out. If there's still a ding at the mouth the expander/belling/whatever-you-wanna-call-it die will likely smooth it out.

if one of the guns is a comander they ding the cases it is what they do as per colt

Sorry about all the bad things going on. Your kid will be in our prayers.

As others have said, if the brass will go through your sizing die, it should be OK. I have had some pretty bent 45acp cases come out fine after sizing.

I've had some brass that required unflattening with pliers to get it to fit the resizer. If it comes out with no creases, it goes to the expander. Sometimes it'll split right there or be marker somehow. I'll save these cases specifically for cowboy rounds (more specifically no magnums).

If I were not shooting them in a revolver or bolt action rifle (aka any autoloader), I don't know if I would reject them or not. I'd probably segregate a few and go the whole way just to see what happened on a couple, then evaluate long term plans based on brass condition after firing.

Wishing you and your family the best...the re-sizing die should take care of that.
