    Prep case mouth

I have a bunch of new, unprimed .223 LC brass that I will be processing soon. One thing I saw on these brass was that their case mouth were not true round. I would need to round the mouth. I could put the brass through the full length sizer and fit these brass but I also read that new brass shouldn't go through a full length sizer. If not, do I run them through a neck sizer? I know I will need to check the brass length after that. Or is there a better way to fix the case mouth?

It depends on what I plan on doing with the ammo. If I am going to put it through a plinker I won't even resize it.

If I plan on putting it through a bolt gun I will full length size, trim, chamfer, and deburr.

The first few batches will be test loads so I would like these to be as perfect as possible. So I guess these should be full length sized, trim, chamfer, and deburr.

Wouldn't the expander be enough to round the mouth out? You don't have to push the sizer all the way down, just enough to get the expanding thingy into and out of the mouth?

After all of that, drop powder and a bullet in there and they will be fine. That is, unless the case mouths are square after resizing or something lol.

Yes, but if you want them to be "as perfect as possible" definitely give them an initial sizing to create even brass for uniform neck tension.

You should size all new brass. They can get dinged up in transit, particularly if you are buying in bulk (even Lapua can have that happen).
