    WOLF LARGE PISTOL PRIMERS???

I load a lot of .45 ammo and have used several thousand WOLF large pistol primers, but with some reservations. It is apparent that these primers are harder than CCI or Winchester and that will result in a few failures. Most of the time a second attempt does fire the WOLF primer, but who needs that?

I would caution anyone about using primers, properly seated, etcetera, that are not 100% functional. I use WOLF primers ONLY in my practice ammo and solely due to the cheap price.

I recommend reloaders use different primer brand for their "serious" loads.

Interesting warning. I have fired 15k+ wolf primers without any problems other than a primer seated too deep or too shallow but those are a brass/user problem.

Wolf pistol primers are one of the most popular. Never heard of issues like that. I strictly use Winchester pistol primers though.

I had the same issues. Only bought them because they were the only thing available at the time and had 4-5 FTF per 100. I don't find that an acceptable success rate when I can go 1000 without a FTF in cci , win or fed.
Some people love em but I will never use them again.

I too have used about 11 thousand Wolf LP primers and have only experienced one dud and found one primer missing an anvil. Every other one went off. Im also using them in two .45 Colt Ruger Vaquero pistols with lightened 17lb hammer springs and never ran into a problem with detonation. Never any problems in the 1911s ether.....

I have shot about 30,000 loads using Wolf LP primers with great sucess. The only problem I have had was using them in a S&W 625 Performance Center gun. I have been getting light strikes but found a longer firing pin solved the problem.

Funny thing is I have found the Wolf primers to be more reliable than Winchester or CCI.

What kind of pistol are you using these in?

I went back to winchester small pistol because I kept getting ftf's during a match that cost me seconds with my g17.

Never had a single issue using Wolf or Tula primers, or with ANY primers for that matter.

I have used Wolf large pistol primers and I have not had an issue with not firing. What I do get is when I am reloading, some of the primers do not fully seat. What I do is I make a pile of them and save them until I am done. Then I give them another run through the primer seater and they always work the second time. They are a lot harder then winchester primers but as long as you keep an eye out for primers they didn't fully seat you will fine. I don't mind the little extra step because I can get them for $15/1000 compared to $25-30 for cci or winchester.

Are you checking the primers of all of your loaded rounds before you fire them to check that the primers are flush? I set my loaded rounds upside down in a ammo case and then I run my fingers over the top to make sure all of the primers have been fully seated. If they are then you may have just got a bad batch since others have had good luck with them. Just my .02

I have been shooting an HK .45C and a Springfield Armory .45 Champion with similiar issues with the Wolf primers.

What I do now is use an extra step. AFTER priming I put all the primed .45 ammo on my flat bench and check for wobble. If some wobble just a bit - I run them through again to eliminate it.

Point well taken about the price of WOLF

Same here. I have a big collection of all makes and sizes. I notice the Wolf's seat a little harder in Winchester brass but it's not been an issue.

Do you reseat primers on loaded ammo? Dare Devil.

No problems with large primer, small primer, that's another story.

I do not, in any way shape or form, recommend seating primers on loaded ammo.
At first glance, I would tend to agree with you Joe. However, after reflecting on the thousands of primers I have seated over the years, of all types and sizes, military and commercial brass, I have yet to have one fire during the seating process. And before I "discovered" primer crimps, some of those primers seated pretty hard. But perhaps that is because I use a single stage or perhaps I've just been lucky. I always check the seating depth with my finger when I complete that process BTW.

I have heard but never experienced trying to put a large primer into a small primer pocket (45 ACP to be precise). Those instances, particularily when motor driven, can cause a bang I understand!
