    Loading AR load recipies.

    Hey Guys,

First and foremost, I want to thank this forum. I posted about about reloading as I am just getting started. One of you members PM'ed me, telling me to come over and today he spent 4 hours with me taking me step by step in loading. He wants to remain anonymous but none the less you know who you are and thank you.

The my question. I want to mainly load for match grade ammo. I have a 18" DPMS mk12 1/8th twist with rifle length gas on my AR15. I want load between 62-77 grain to hit steel out at 200-600 yards. Does anyone have any advice? I am totally new to loading and mixing and matching.

I need recommendations in all, bullets, primers, powders, please let me know

I like to start with new 5.56 brass, CCI # 41 primers prefered or 2nd CCI 400 )Note: the AR has a floating firing pin and it needs a primer with a hard cup) I am liking the new AR-Comp powder for the heavy bullets and Nozler custom comp bullets

Varget + new LC brass from Brassmanbrass, tried mag primers, rem benchrest, wsr and they all seemed to work about the same.

          ballpark loads:

          26 grains for 52hp @ 2.24
          25 for 69grains @ 2.25
          24 for 75+ grains @ 2.25

I like 52bthp speer bulk packs, 69/77 nosler bulk packs, 75 hornady bulk packs and am trying to get some of the wideners 75 prvi bullets. Powdervalley always seems to have the best overall prices but watch Midway and Midsouth for sales and coupons.

for 55/62 grain plinking ammo I'd probably go 24 grains and book length. Goldenwest? has cheap plinking bullets.

Bongos, how are you getting 27gr of Varget in 223 brass?

Seems like Varget is the load for AR's.

I don't like Varget. Does not meter well for me. Can't get the FPS up high enough to match Black Hills factory, which my scope's BDC is set. XBR or TAC with 77 gr. SMK.
1 in 8 twist JP. 748 for my 55 Gr.
If you can't shoot good, at least look good shooting

They are more accurate then I am at 100 yards, mostly because I don't run a scope just a magnifier over a Eotech. I like them because they are 62gr like SS109/M855 minus the steel tip so they will do less damage to steel targets.

I have been getting good results with Vihtavuori N140 with berger 77 grain BT bullets. I received some N540's and ready to try it.
