    Beginner Reloader Question

So I am new to reloading and I am going to buy the Lee Deluxe Reloading Kit. I am ordering the dies and all the items that are needed. Here are some questions.

#1: It says in the instruction I need to lube the dies and the press. Does it come with lube? If not, what can I use? A link to Midway USA would be great because I am buying everything from there.

#2: I keep hearing about the need to resize and do things to spent round. Does the Lee Press do everything? If I shot ammo, would I be able to clean them and put them straight on the press? Or is there more steps I need to do?

#3: It comes with a chamfering tool. And I hear that you need to use it to use military and PMC brass (which I have a ton of). Is this done separately? What tool do I need for that? Do I just chamfer the round and put it in the press?

#4: I saw this Lake City Brass that says it is unfired and no primer to crimp. Can I just place these in my Press and load away?

    Thank you very much!

1st thing to do is buy a reloading manual and read it.
    1. For straight walled cases if you are using a carbide die you do not have to lube, rifle cases with necks will need to be lubed.
    2. Here's where the manual comes handy. Buy it and read it.....
    3. If you are prepping rifle cases, you will need to do more steps... read the manual....
    4. You will need to measure and trim, others will say re-size.
...with liberty and justice for all. Void where prohibited, offer not valid everywhere, price may change. See Big Brother for details.

      #1 :Case lube
You really only need to lube rifle cases. Pistol cases, because they are straight and because of the carbide dies, don't need lube. I prefer using this lube and a lube pad. I don't like the spray on stuff, when I use that stuff, they get stuck in the die and it is a PITA to remove.

#2: the dies are resizing dies. There are 2 kinds of resizing dies: full length and neck sizers. You really need both IMO. The full length sizer you use when you are resizing once fired brass from a different rifle(found brass etc...) This resizes the case to factory dimensions, and sets the shoulder back (to factory specs). It probably needs to be trimmed at this point, so make sure you get a case trimmer and dial caliper with your kit(or buy them seperately). These tools are MANDATORY for rifle reloading. The neck sizer you use to just resize the neck and set the shoulder back. By only neck sizing after fireforming, you nearly eliminate the chance of head separation(dangerous and ruins your day). There is more to say that you NEED to know but you really need someone to help you OR watch the RCBS reloading video. It is well worth the $20. Also, I suggest the Hornady reloading manual(a manual of some sort is also required for working up safe loads). The hornady manual has an EXCELLENT introductory section that explains safe reloading practices, and talkes about head space and other saftey issues that are imperative to know(IMO). The dies themselves will have directions on how to use each one. Read them carefully and follow the directions and triple check your measurements several times on your first loads.

#3 The chamfering tool is a last resort tool for decrimping. Best to get the decrimping tool and do it properly.

#4 They claim it should be sized first. This may not be necessary, just measure the case in as many points as possible compared to the manual dimensions. If they are all in spec, then you are GTG. I would measure 30 of them at random and if they ALL were in spec I'd say they are all GTG.

More questions? Just ask. PM is best.

Do get the manual as stated. Any questions you may have can be answered by the manual. Before I started reloading many moons ago, I picked up a RCBS reloading manual to educate myself.
