    [Humor] Making your own rounds

This is a total silly post (sort of). Please keep that in mind.

I've been watching Falling Skies. Kinda cool show. I was just thinking about if I were in a Low Resources Scenario (LRS), is there a way to make my own rounds? Not just reload, but make the components or use a common substitute?

Bullets, yes. Make a cast from a brick, melt down lead. Or for a shotgun, ball bearing? Rocks?

Case, maybe? Have to be really careful about policing brass. In a shotgun, I think it would be easier to make all brass cases, like in the old days. Or paper?

Powder, maybe? I think it's possible. Getting the right mix will be tricky.

    Primer...is it possible?

What ever you make, it would be total crap. But if things were bad enough, could you make your own from scratch?

PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS! Thank you.

good point, I doubt you could make primers but im sure you could make some sort of gunpowder using chemicles that are readily available, Charcoal and Salt peter comes to mind. It doesnt have to be smokeless or provide match grade acuracy, it just has to expand very quickly when ignited.

Projectiles are easy, you can even cast your own shot pellets.

It would be incredibly difficult to make brass, like INCREDIBLY difficult. I think the best bet if you could find a way to make a flammable powder to just get a flintlock or another muzzleloader that doesnt require a percussion cap.

You could always get realy good with a bow and arrow, thats like unlimmited ammo

For brass, if you could find some kind of pipe in the proper diameter and thickness that you could cut down.

Wonder if you could super heat your firing pin? Or electrify it? Mount a stun gun in your stock that's connected to the trigger and wires run...somewhere? But then you would need batteries

Yeah, bow and arrow is what I was kinda thinking too.

I think you would have to "go back" to black powder muzzle loaders....You would be too busy trying to survive all the other challenges.

muzzle loader and anything you can shove down the barrel. PB&J??? BOOM it shot it. dried meat BOOM shot it. you may starve with this method but at least youd have projectiles... maybe rocks would be better and a sling shot

It was known as a flintlock , not much good against skidders usning a tradional typ but you come up with a gattling flintlock. talk about smoke and fire but difficult to make reliable

Was talking with a co-worker. We're pretty sure you could make a shotgun "shell" from paper. Just something to hold powder and "shot" (staples, tacks, what ever) together. Add a couple of barbs/electrodes to the bolt, some contact points that touch the bolt and wires to a stun gun in the stock and have an electrical ignition shotgun. Charge batteries w/ solar cells. No need to eject anything. Hmmm...feeding might be an issue unless it's break action.

                  Reloading Primers

                  You can reload primers.

                  For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0jxpLH8FtY and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p1Xv...eature=related

The real problem is the powder.

Just take the "Junk Rounds" perk.
Five tin cans, some scrap metal, and a case is good to go for a round.
Oh wait that only works in "Fallout".

I'm thinking a bow or a crossbow would be easier than trying to make your own ammo in that way!

yep. Much easier projectiles to make, plus they're reusable almost indefinitely (avoid rocks).

There are AR uppers that are crossbows.I kinda like them for a quieter SHTF scenario.
