    Is Chamfering necessary?

I purchased 500 boattail round, I noticed the bullet (Hornady FMJ BT) fits on the case without Chamfering.
    Is this step still necessary?
    Thanks in advance.

chamfering helps alot with flat based bullets, but imo with boat tails, unnecessary, if there's not burrs on the brass.
if its fresh trimmed brass, than a quick chamfer on the inside is a good idea.

Outside chamfer gives you a cleaner crimp &/or the cartridge chambers a bit better.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Chambering is needed mostly after trimming. I chamber the once fired brass even not trimmed because chamfering inside of the mouth will avoid shaving the bullet during seating. You can imagine why a shaved bullet will potentially affect accuracy.

Chamfering the ouside will help reduce FTF and cutting your hands.
