Started cheap with a Lee turrent press and my wife wanted her own so she bought a Lee turrent and that was twenty five years ago. They have been used weekly and both are still working great. Have never had a break down. A real value. We also bought the ABC's of reloading by the late Dean Grennell. Good luck and enjoy. Last week I bought a Lee Classic Turrent presses that can reload rifle ammo. Ordered it from Bud's Gun Shop and was delivered to my door for $104.00. Now that a deal.

I'm shocked at the lack of Dillon fanbois!

I have a Hornady LNL and love it. It's red too.

Well, maybe some folks are getting the idea that it's about promoting and discussing reloading, not the specific brand someone chooses to buy with their own money. Fanboi-ism detracts from our advocacy efforts, no matter the brand.

Would that be the LnL AP or the LnL single-stage? I've heard good things about both.

the AP press is better for cranking out lots of pistol ammo quickly but you will want to use it as a single stage at first while you learn. I think it ends up costing about $400-$500 more too, the plates and accessories are expensive in addition to the added cost of the press itself. The single stage would work fine though and you can always find another use for the single stage if you decide it's not fast enough for you later. Single stage is great for beginners because it's harder to miss problems with your loads like not dropping powder etc when using an AP press. The AP press just requires you to pay a bit more attention since multiple things are going on at once. If I had the money I probably would have gone for the AP press, but I'm content with my single stage for now. Just more pulls of the lever.

If you go to a shooting event at your local gun club and make it known what you are up to, I would bet that someone there could fix you up. Most clubs will go out of their way to help new shooters, and no doubt there are a few club members who have collected enough gear over the years that they could easily outfit a newbie for not much money. Naturally, when you go over to his house to pick it up, he won't be able to resist showing you how it all works, too.

I'm always in awe of the ammo factories a few guys here have.
My setup is pretty simple. I have a few time-saver devices, but I'm a single stager. I don't think my OCD will let me have progressive!
                My bench:

Just remember that you don't have to buy everything at once, and the suggestion to buy used is a good one. Dies don't go bad unless they rust.
I started with a simple Lee kit for .45ACP. And after a couple hundred rounds I started putting together my setup.

I got the Lee Challenger kit. It works fine but the cheap scale it comes with is garbage. I tried to use it for 20 minutes, got pissed and tossed it. I got a digital scale and it is infinitely better.

BTW, don't skimp on the bench. Build something solid that will work well. I built a little portable table top thing and it was way too flimsy.
