270 winchester load data using barnes Tipped TSX

Hello everyone, i will be reloading my 270 win useing barnes ttsx 130 gr bullet. There is literally little to no info on it. Im looking for specifically the oal and powder they used. Thanks guys

Check their website. I can't speak for OAL, but you can duplicate the data from the TSX rounds.

I do believe Barnes makes suggestions for seating off the lands (specified distance) rather than OAL. I also remember specifically of a suggestion that we do not have to seat to the cannelure. I'd have to find that info again though so don't quote me on that one just yet. But that's searchable too.

It is in their book. C.O.A.L 3.300" They show Win760/H414/IMR4350/H4350(most accurate load)/Hunter and RL19 powders. What powders do you have? The TTSX and TSX bullets shoud not be seated real close to the lands. I have had good luck seating to their specs or slightly shorter.

yes barnes wants the bullet .030-.070" of the lands, they say to start at .050", but you need to make sure the bullet will fit in the mag. when i did this for mine they would not fit, so i set mine to stock oal.

What powder are you wanting to use?

I have a little bit of win760 but thinking of using rl 19, i keep reading that it is really accurate powder for this bullet.

130gr TTSX -----C.O.A.L. 3.225"
Win760--Start 50.5grs for 2950FPS and max 55grs for 3150FPS

RL19---Start 56grs for 3026FPS and max 59.5grs for 3211FPS

Just remember with the barnes bullets the faster you push them the better they work on game.

When I had my 270 i loaded barnes with H4350 and my load was 54 gr I got good 3 shot groups I did notice as i pushed the bullet faster I lost accuraccy.
If you don't care for tight groups then push it for speed just watch out for over pressure loads.

Load shoots 3/4"-1.25" 3 shot groups @100 yards.
My Tikka T-3 in .270 Win. has a long throat, can't get near the lands at max. C.O.L. This load shoots great @ max C.O.L.

I do like the tipped TSX, but I got a deal ($22.00 a box) on the regular TSX's. This is my Condor preservation load.

My experience with W-760 powder in my 270's (I owned 3 and used W-760 for many years) with 130 Gr. bullets was 52.0 Grs. was a warm load. I suggest you start at 50.0 and go up from there. I do own the #4 Barnes manual that shows the 50.5 to 55 max data for their 130 TSX and MRX. This is just the experience I've had with W-760.
