12 gauge Ballistic Products slug recipes?

So I have 100 of these 1 1/8 oz BP DGS-12-Slugs...I see that they come with their own wad, and I have no idea where to find load data for them...

I have STS hulls; either Reddot or Herco; and Win 209 primers...

If someone has some data I would much appreciate it...

They develop a lot of their own loads with their products, you'd need to order their book.

I just got the new 375gr "green slug" that is a aluminum base with copper coating for rifled shotguns. I ordered the slugs, nitro cards and gas seals but not the book. Wish I had sprung for the book at the same time, now I gotta wait for the book to come in so I can build my new slug loads.

I see...I wish they would have put a disclaimer on their site when I ordered!

Anyways, Im kinda between jobs right now (on DEP for USMC), and dont have the spare cash to get the book...So Is it ok if I bother you for the recipe when you get it?

Sure thing, I've been itching to try out the slug loads. Would love to hear what kind of results you get with the slugs you're gonna load as well.

              PANTyRAiD,

The book finally came in with the load data:

For the 1-1/8" oz DGS-12 slugs the book calls for:

              Hull: Cheddite Multi-Metal 2-3/4"

34gr of Longshot using a BPI DGS wad, Cheddite 209 primer, and a Clear Overshot Card
40gr of Longshot using a BPI DGS wad, Cheddite 209 primer, and a Clear Overshot Card
28gr of IMR PB using a BPI DGS wad, Cheddite 209 primer, and a Clear Overshot Card
32gr of IMR PB using a BPI DGS wad, Cheddite 209 primer, and a Clear Overshot Card

Hull: Fiocchi plastic hull, plastic base wad

24gr of Green Dot using a BPI DGS wad, Fio 616 primer
23gr International Clays using a BPI DGS wad, Fio 616 primer with a Clear Overshot Card
33.5gr of Universal Clays using a BPI DGS wad, Fio 616 primer with a Clear Overshot Card

If I come across any more loads, I'll post more.

Ballistic Products 3rd Edition Slug manual only tests 2 3/4" hulls using Rio, Cheddite, Fiocchi, and some Federal hulls. It would be best to just order their new primed hulls. Also for the DGS they recommend a .030" overshot card or a clear overshot disk on top of the DGS slug. They warn that the DGS slug has a fairly tapered conical tip and be careful to not have the tip of the slug protruding past the top of the hull. Could be dangerous in the magazine tubes of semi's and pumps with the tip resting on the primers of other rounds.
Also, they list data for roll crimps, you'd need a roll crimping tool and also some loads used a fold crimp. Only one load using Longshot powder with the Cheddite hull with a FOLD crimp. No loads for Federal hulls with the DGS slug in 2 3/4" hulls. Fiocchi hulls has one load with a FOLD crimp. RIO has 6 loads listed with a FOLD crimp with the DGS slug.
Load data in fold crimped hulls uses less powder than roll crimped hulls.
The Ballistic Product manuals are very good shotshell manuals BUT they list mostly their products and you'd need to buy their components. Also, their slug and buckshot manuals don't use many standard hulls, mostly the one's I listed above. Most hulls used are of the straight walled type rather than the tapered wall hulls such as Remington. Like I've already said, easiest and best to simply order their primed hulls, their manual, tools needed, and their components. It's not a good practice to substitute shotshell components and experimenting with loads. Always best to use exact components listed, powder, primers, hulls, wads, cards, etc.
Ballistic Product manuals have a good "how to" section. Wish they would test more common hulls. I don't have access locally to Fiocchi, Rio, Cheddite components.
Buy the manual, use BP's components, don't experiment. The loads listed above by GetsBulletsandBrass are for using a ROLL crimp only. BP only listed one load with Fiocchi using Univ. Clays powder with a fold crimp and one load using Longshot powder with a Cheddite fold crimp.
Cheddite hull plastic basewad-Cheddite 209 primer- 38 grains of Longshot- 1 1/8 oz. DGS slug
Fiocchi hull plastic basewad-Fiocchi 616 primer- Universal Clays 28.5 grains- 1 1/8 oz DGS slug

Best option if you're not set up with tools etc. to roll crimp is to order PRIMED 2 3/4 Rio hulls from Ballistic Products. They are primed with Rio-209 primers. With a FOLD crimp they list 6 loads in their 3rd Edition Slug Manual.
Longshot powder 38 grains- 10600 psi
                  Longshot powder 39.5------10900 psi
                  Unique powder 31 grains----11000 psi
                  Unique powder 29 grains----10400 psi
                  PB powder 29.5------------11400 psi
                  Universal Clays 29 grains----11000 psi
No other cards etc. listed with these loads with velocities from 1430 to 1670 fps.
This is for FOLD crimp loads using Rio 2 3/4 hulls with Rio 209 primers.

rg1 pointed out an important part of my load data which I'm glad he did. The loads I listed do require a roll crimp.

If you plan to load any of the slugs manufactured by BPI, buy their book and don't substitute any of materials listed. This will save you a lot of grief in the long run.

I carry Fiocchi and Cheddite hulls and wads as part of my inventory if anyone needs some.
