    Match Ammo

Newbie questions; What are "Match Ammo"? Why are these mostly hollow point; not FMJ??

Match ammo is a word companies put on ammo that they put the most effort into consistency. Powder drops, brass weight and length, projectile weight and dimension should all be consistent.

They are mostly hollow tip because small inconsistencies in the base of the bullet have a large impact in how it leaves the muzzle, and therefore how it flies down range. Small inconsistencies in the tip do not have much of an effect on the flight characteristics. So drawing a bullet so the jacket opening at the tip is better from a manufacturing standpoint. Also I hear that the center of mass of the bullet is moved backwards a bit, and that helps stability at long range
