    .308Win bullet weight recommendations?

I will be looking for a good .308Win bullet and powder combo for handloading a hunting round. I will be hunting Mule deer taking shots no longer than 250 yards (area D16). I just acquired a Weatherby Vanguard .308Win with a 20" 1 in 10 twist barrel that I will be using. I would like to use Sierra bullets with Varget powder. I am not sure what bullet weight I should start with. Please share what bullet weight has worked well for you. Thanks!

I believe 150 or 165 grain buellets will work fine for mule deer. If it is not in condor area, I would use 165 grain bonded bullets.

      22" barrel .308 Barnes TTSX 168gr, 3 shots under .264" @ 100yrds I wont shoot past 400yds

44grs of varget, win cases, trim length 2.005 coal crimped to 2.810, chrony @ 2710fps chrony was set out to 15 feet.

D16 is not near condor range

150gr to 180gr traditional JSP will do the job fine on both mule deer and whitetails. Of course, so will the premium bullets.

I'd go with a 150gr or 165gr Nosler partition on mulies. They are expensive but well worth it IMHO.

Use a 150gr Nosler partition or one of the 150gr bonded bullets and you will be set. I have gotten more speed and great accuracy with Win748 in the 308win over my chronograph with both long and short barrels. I plan to use 150gr interbond Hornady bullets with 51.5grs of Win748 in my encore pistol(or rifles) for X-12 this year. I know they work. My fall back load will be a 150gr Nosler Partition

It pays to spend a little more for the one thing that means the most on your success. That would be the bullet.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
