    Sizing issue (bullet falling in)

Just want to say, I apologize in advance if this is a dupe or Im just a noob who dont know jack Please help

Been reloading for less than 6 months for .223 using a used RCBS die. Recently upgraded to a Redding Type-S Match die set. I resized some of my brass and attempted to place a bullet for seating. The bullet just slides in. At this point is this where I need to purchase the right size pushing to create more tension for the bullets to stay put while I try and seat them?

    Thanks again,
    -Vincent

Sounds like what happens when the neck hasn't been sized at all. If you can't justify using the bushing die just go back to the standard full length die. When you find you need a tighter neck for whatever reason then buy the bushing based on the diameter neck you are getting from the standard die and go smaller. You will need a caliper to measure the neck you are getting from the standard die.

Like he said, most likely cause is that you aren't actually getting to the neck with your sizer. Since that's a Full Length die, you should have the full case going up into it, all the way down to the base. (as far as the shellholder will allow).

If you're already maxing out the die, there's a remote possibility that the expander is oversize and is opening the case mouth up too far.

I think this may be it. Im using a Hornady LnL Classic btw. I followed the directions on how to set up the right height to screw in my die. So whats next IF I am opening up the case mouth too far?

More likely, you didn't order bushings. I don't think they ship with one.

Measure a loaded round neck diameter, then subtract about .003", order that bushing, then the one above and below it.

There could be another problem; an oversize expander ball. To check, remove the decaping rod (if you can; I'm familiar with RCBS dies, not Redding), resize a casing and see if a bullet will still slip into the case neck. If it does, greater minds than mine have already given you the answer. If it does not slip into the neck, then the expander ball is too big.
