30-06 reloading

hello all
im looking to use my 30-06 for deer this season in the d5 zone. i want to try and do that with my 1st reload. im looking at the hornady sst 165 grain. what will be the good powder brand and grain to use.

I was in the same boat as you last year, 30-06 was the first cartridge i started reloading for, you need to get a reloading manual, the lee manual has a ton of info on the 30-06 in many bullet weights, I like H4895 and H4350.

Ive loaded quite a few sierra bullets aswell as some barnes tsx in 150grain weight and found them to be extremely accurate I havent used any hornady bullets in my -06 but i have used them quite a bit in my 30-30 and find them to be an excellent product.

I shoot Sierra 165sbt and 168 Match in my 03A3 for hunting.
Two of my Pet loads:
These shoot just as well out of my other 03A3 and brothers Savage.
The H-4350 load is traveling about 200fps faster, both will kill deer just fine.

IMR4064 or IMR4895 works well. The 165gr bullet is heavier than you need for the deer in D5-6. Match bullets are a mistake for hunting. They were not designed for that and although they may work sometimes they will fail sooner or later. Use a bullet designed for hunting and do not worry about that last 1/4" of accuracy.
