    Using .308 For 7.62x39 .311

Ive searched on google with mixed results so I thought I'd ask here. Is it possible to use .308 diameter bullet safely when 7.62x39 calls for .311?

    Thanks

It will work but you'll get crap accuracy and probably keyhole.
Just get the right bullets: .310, .311 will work (I'e used up to 150 grn).

+1. It's safe, but it can play havoc with your precision if your bore's not 0.308".

Slug your bore. If it's .308", like with many Ruger Mini-30's, then that's exactly the bullet size you want. Same goes for a Finnish Mosin-Nagant, where the reworking was done with 0.308" barrels. However, if it's a Com-block firearm (e. g. AK-47, SKS), you're probably looking at a .311" bore and want to go that size.
