    9mm oal

I just got a 9mm setup for my dillon 550. i am using 124 gr montana gold bullets and hogdon titegroup powder. What oal should i be using and how many grains? The lee dies say 1.169" and the bottle of titegroup I have says 4.8 grains with a col of 1.125". What should i do?

I'm using 1.135" OAL with 115(4.2 grns ) and 124(4.0 grns) Winchester FMJ's and Titegroup. I'm using these in an M&P and a G-34. Load to mag length, or see what your gun WON'T shoot before you load a bunch.

Probably somewhere in the middle. I've found 9mm to have a widely varying OAL. If you have any factory rounds with a similar 124 gr projectile measure those and see how that works, starting with a low charge of course.

          4.8grs sounds kind of hot.

4.8grs seems VERY hot for a 124gr FMJ bullet.

I think that might be for a 115gr bullet, not a 124gr FMJ, but I could be wrong.

I think you need to back it off some to be safe. I would start at like 4.1grs and maybe set my max load at 4.4grs until you have some experience with the load. Using 1.125 as a minimum OAL will be fine.

Bill brings forth a good point, the info on the bottle is a typically a max load, they usually recommend reducing by 10%

As far as OAL goes, 1.135" range is a very good point to work around for 9mm. I would recommend to not load a 124gr any longer than 1.150" or any shorter than 1.120".
