    .45ACP loading help

So I'm up and running on a Dillon XL650 with a hornady bullet feeder, but now that I'm actually loading .45ACP, I'm having a bit of difficulty finding a good powder load for the Rainier ballistics 200 grain Jacketed Round Nose I'm working with.

I'm currently loading at 4.0 grains of Hodgdon Clays (not Universal Clays, regular Clays), and it still feels incredibly light in my Springfield Mil-Spec and produces cycling/feeding problems in my friend's Springfield Operator. I've been working off of the LRN data for Clays, and they list 4.2 as the maximum loading.

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on the matter about how far I can safely push higher than 4.2 (I've seen some people loading FMJ SWCs at 8.8?), and what starting load I should get it running at.

    Thanks in advance.

Hodgdon Clays 4.3 729 12,300 Hodgdon Clays 5.5 941 21,000 from an old Rainier reloading data sheet. Use at your own risk.

Thanks for the info, Chief. But an additional question: what are those numbers after the initial powder loading (i.e. 729 12,300 and 941 21000)?

Powder weight in Grains, Feet per Second of projectile thought a test barrel, Pressure per square inch measured by a transducer in the test barrel or receiver.

I load 4.6 grains of Bullseye poweder with a Wolf Large pistol primer to push my 200 grain Rainer round nose bullets. I like this load since it provides excellent accuracy and I am not burning up a lot of powder. You already know that higher velocities do not result in improved accuracy - just the reverse is normal.

Follow the load tables provided by the manufacturers to be on the safe side.

The biggest problem here is that Rainier ballistics doesn't provide any data (except for the old stuff Chief provided), and hodgdon doesn't have data specific to 200 gr JRNs. Thanks for the advice though.

Use the lead bullet reloading data for plated bullets, because if you push them to fast there is a possibility of the plating separating from the lead core.
