Lee auto disc driving me crazy!!!!

So here I am trying to relax and do a little loading and my lee auto disc strts to drive me up a wall! Every throw is inconsistent and I have to measure every round every time and sometimes it takes up to 4 throws to get a good measure. When I attempt to adjust it throws off the load even more. What's my deal is it my auto disc or my lee scale? I hope it's the scale I was planning on replacing it n e way.

An example of what I'm talking about is I'm trying to load .38 super with power pistol at 6.8 grains, every throw is between 6.7-7.3, it's crazy the difference to me but am I just being paranoid? Help me out here!

    Auto disc powder measure...

I dumped my whole Lee turret setup and went with the Hornady progressive. I suggest to ditch it and get an old RCBS powder measure with the linkage kit or go with a standard powder measure like Hornady. I went with the RCBS powder measure with the Hornady linkage kit. The Lee was killing me! Good luck.

Get rid of the scale and all your problems will go alway, I like the system so much I order another turret. One for 9mm and 45acp. Try doing that with Hornady,[ in less you have a whole lot of extra money laying around] but really I could'nt get that scale to work either much less trust it. A good 75 dollar beam scale will work well and the Lee auto is very consistant, once you get your loads down. Good luck

did you run about 1/4 lb of powder through your auto disk before you started to use it? I must have lucked out, because my Lee scale is dead on evrytime with my LEE auto disk and my Lee perfect powder measure. I can drop 10 charges and every one will read within a tenth grain of eachother every time.

I've ran powder through that thing like mad and the charges are always different. In truth I hope it's the scale cause I hate the lee scale and want to upgrade.

I do admit that my scale sometimes will get stuck and I have to bump it a little and then it rocks back and forth untill it reads correct. If it slows down really fast and then stops, it is probably stuck and just needs a little nudge untill it rocks back and forth smoothly. For $20.00 mine has worked great. I usually use my $30.00 Hornandy digital scale, but use the LEE scale to verify the Hornandy every so often.

What cavity size are you using on the auto-disk, and is it a flake powder?

Small cavities with a flake powder are TERRIBLE.

                Auto Disk

I wish I could help you.

My Auto Disks have been pretty flawless when it comes to consistency and I use about 8 different powders. I have not used Power Pistol and I do know some powders do not meter well through the AD, I just don't know if PP is one of them.

I have been lucky with my Lee cheapy scale as well as it works flawlessly for me, if a bit touchy. It does take more patience than other scales, but I use it to double check my $150 RCBS 1010.

If you decide to replace the Lee scale, I think the Dillon beam scale is about the best value in a powder scale out there.

Power Pistol is flake powder. I have heard from several people that flake or stick powders do not run consistently through the Lee measures. I had a similar problem with Unique powders and the Lee.

Maybe before I get rid of the auto disc I'll try some different powder and see what happens. Still replacing the scale though...

Titegroup and W231 meters extremely well in both my Auto disk and perfect powder measurer.

This is the scale you want to get:

The Dillon Eliminator costs about $56 and it is just great.
Graf & Sons, the reloading authority, has a wide selection of reloading supplies, shooting supplies, ammo and more.

I used to have the cheapy Lee scale too. You have to make sure it is level before you zero it. Since there is no way to level it included with the scale, that makes it quite difficult. The tenths slide bar is also really touchy and hard to read.

I doubt it is the powder measure. Mine are typically +/- 0.1 with an occasional 0.2

Titegroup and Bullseye both have metered well for me. When I get a new measure (I have one for each pistol turret) I dump in graphite and hand cycle the crap out of it and tap it upside down, right side up, rotate, sideways, etc over a trash can so my wife doesn't kill me. Really helps the break in.

My Lee disc powder measure is great. Usually right on however I get a .1 variance on occasion. Try measuring the same load several times and if you get varying measurements, use a BFH to 'adjust the scale' before buying a new scale that is accurate.

calibrate your scale properly. I don't have a standard weight so I use a penny and a dime. The lee scale is accurate if you get the hang of it. I ended up buying an electronic scale from amazon and I can tell that the lee scale is only a 0.1 grain off if not dead on with the electronic scale.
