Remember to check your ammo - bullet seated backwards

As the title said, always check your ammo. I usually do it right after I buy it and then before loading it.

I've read on this and other forums about people encountering bullets seated backwards in Federal ammo. Well, I found one of those in, of course, the Federal ammo I bought. This is Federal Power-Shok in .30-30.

Of course, it could be that Federal is testing a new .30-30 wadcutter load...

I would contact Federal on monday and let them know at the very least to let them know there is an issue

most likely they will give you something also

Before and during WWI when the old African elephant hunters couldn't get solids they used to pull the soft point bullets and reseat them backwards so that they would act like solids.

The fun part is that these actually ARE soft points, and the bottom of the bullet is jacketed.

Much as I'm curious to see how it shoots, I'll pass on that. If you want it, one of you is welcome to have it, of course

It's not the bullet that's backwards, it the case.

I was reading in Handloader magazine a few years back of testing of pro-jo's that were damaged, dinged, tips cut diagonally, and even seated backwards and accuracy at 100 yards did not suffer, perhaps even 200 yards, I don't remember clearly.

I have never purposely seated bullets backwards and have not bought factory ammo in decades so I cannot personally give my experienced opinion but it is documented in the Handloader Magazine archives.
