    Milspec .223 ammo question.

I'm constantly seeing offers for .223 ammo that adverts. steel plate penetrating capabilities. I love shooting my AR and buy quality rounds to run through it. My question is: what is the purpose of this round as a civilian? I'm really close to buyin a load of this stuff, just to have it, but is there another practical application for it??
    Thanks.

Usually just cheaper and loaded with mil surplus bullets.

Usually ss109 or m855 is more expensive than commercial .223 and some guns are .223 only. Steel core will be less accurate as well.

I've noticed that too. I'm on the fence about picking up a SL of m855 but I'm trying to figure out what I'd really need it for besides, If SHTF. I'm not gunna burn that stuff at the range.

Yes I was a hunter in the water also. Go to Albion for abs and Channel Islands for bugs. Also form Montery to Pismo(and south) for fish. All over for scallops. I have not been able to go in a number of years due to many things such as hip replacement, back surgery, sold boat/motorhome,family,then divorce, then take care of daughter, forced retirement, etc. But I have another boat now and as I recover I plan to start diving again. I have regulators/BC's/spearguns and spare air to overhaul before I do much.

I miss diving quite a bit and use to go very often.

Sorry you haven't been able to get out in so many years. Sounds like you dived all over the place. I too hit most of those spots, except Pismo. I primarily dive the North Coast, from Salt Point to Ft. Bragg. Also dive a bit in Monterey. LOVE the Channel Islands!! I go out on the Vision from time to time.

Will do. Since I will forget about it when the time comes I will post in the hunting/fishing forum. It will be awhile. I use to take my boat out to the Channel Islands but this Whaler would be a tougher ride. I use to go out on the Peace years agoo sometimes. We use to freedive the sand bars way out at Pismo for Pismo clams when it was legal years ago.
