Dirty .223 case necks after tumbling?

Does anyone else have this issue? I just started reloading .223 for my AR and noticed that many of my cases come out sparkling clean except the case necks still have noticeable carbon residue left over after tumbling.

I'm using a Hornday M2 tumbler filled a bit over half-full with petco crushed walnut shells, a cap full of NuFinish polish, and 200-250 pieces of .223 brass (once fired only). I run the tumbler for 2 hours. Headstamps include PMC and PPU (prvi-partizan).

    Any advice is appreciated.

If I see cases still dirty, I just leave them in there longer. I also generally fill the tumbler 2/3 full. Maybe at half full they aren't tumbling enough.

    You can't over-tumble

Get a caseneck cleaner (like a small bottle brush) or tumble longer. And dump the nufinish for a REAL polish made for brass ammo cases. Spend an extra 75 cents. Ask me how I know....

I use to use Flits polish to remove the carbon on the neck area but nowadays I use Nufinish. I just dab a small amount on a paper towel or cotton rag and viola. That way I do not tumble for a long time.
