    10mm 135 grn powders

I have longshot for 180 grain bullets. I need to pick a powder for 135 grain bullets. The Hodgdon site shows Winchester Autocomp giving the highest velocity at pressures lower than some of the lower performing powders. Has anyone used Autocomp? Accuracy?

I would do some experimenting with Longshot, since you have it. I have used A LOT of LS in my 10mm loads, mostly 180gr & 200gr, but I haven't used LS with 135gr bullets. I have loaded 90gr XTP's to over 2000fps with LS in 9x25 Dillon. I'd be willing to bet that LS will outperform Autocomp with those 135gr Noslers. I wish I could be more help with load data, I'll try and find some for you.

If this is a "just for fun" load, and you have patience, try 800X. It doesn't meter well, so you really should hand weigh each charge. Then again, if it's a just for fun load, my favorite flash-bang is a 155gr bullet over Blue Dot (LS will do the trick with the 155's too).

I've had some results using Power Pistol with a 140 gr 10 mm bullet. Longshot tends to like heavier projectiles and you may find yourself getting to a point that adding more powder actually slows down the load. I ran into this in my 610 with a heavy jacketed bullet (195 gr). It would get to about 1150 fps, and when I tested the next heavier charge of powder which was .2 gr more than the 1150 fps load, the velocity dropped about 35 fps. This was tested in a 6.5" and 3 7/8" gun as well as a Para P16 with a 5" bbl. More powder = less velocity. I'd go with something a tad faster.. autocomp or Power pistol.. or even Herco and/or Blue Dot.

Power Pistol is another excellent choice for the 135's, but I'm not convinced that Longshot prefers only the heavier bullets. I have loaded 200gr WFNGC's to over 1260fps, and 180's to over 1400fps using LS in 10mm, but like I said, I haven't tried 135's yet. I have done extensive testing of LS in 9x25 Dillon. While it's a different cartridge, my LS load sends 90gr JHP's (REALLY light for this caliber) over 2000fps down range, I'm confident it will also shine with light 10mm bullets.

Another reason I REALLY like LS, is that it operates at lower pressures than most popular 10mm powders. It is way more forgiving than powders like 800X & Power Pistol. It's also faster on the burn rate chart than Blue Dot, so if Blue Dot would work well for 135's, LS should also.
