where to sell used brass ?

I have a 5 gallon bucket full of used brass. I have de primed it. The local guy said he would only pay 55 cents a pound because it was "bad brass". I think that is odd. I am located in Santa Clarita. Does any one know of some one in the Santa Clarita or San Fernando valleys that takes "bad brass" ? Thanks

what type of brass are we talking about
    rifle or pistol
    is it all mixed together?

Im thinking you could place it in the marketplace

Retired as in, culled during the reloading process? Sell it as scrap, not to another reloader

That is the plan. I am looking for a scrap yard that does not think it is "bad" brass

folks who are into bullet swaging may be interested in your used brass.

I deal with a scrap yard in Victorville. The going rate, last time I looked, was $1.75 per lb.
              De-capping not required.
Look in your phone book for scrap yards in your area.

"recyclers" tend towards dishonesty - They like to maximize profits buying from you and reselling to actual scrap metal dealers.
They have a boat load of reasons why your metal is not worth the going rate.

Phillips Wholesale in Glendora do a "Credit" for $1 a pound.. his prices are very fair compared to anywhere else.

Good to know. I see a swap of brass for reclaimed shot in my future.

The going price is $1.75 per pound...cash.
Why would you sell for less?

I think he offers less so that he's not perpetually flooded by brass.

There's also a bit of the convenience factor. Going 10 miles out of the way to a recycler means 20 miles round trip... for most people that's around a gallon of gas. 4.25$ (or more... gas is crazy) lost to chuck your brass for more money. that's would take 5.6 pounds of brass to hit a breakeven at the cost difference.

I bet if you offered to put it into a flat rate box and asked a specific amt, ppl here or on another board would happily take it off your hands for use other than as cartridge brass.. I certainly might..

It's convenience and gas as mentioned above, plus I like the idea of helping out the local reloading store.
We would be hosed if Phillips went out of business.
