    233/556 powders.

I have been loading off an on for lets just say a long time. I have been using Accurate powder 2230-s 24 gr under a 55gr fmjbt. As I use up what is left of this powder I am going to ask what are your favorite powders for this cartridge? I have been giving thought to Varget since I can use it in 30-06 and 7.5x55 Swiss also. However I am this morning taking a new reloader under my wing and walking him through loading 223 and I would hate to steer him to using my stick in the mud loads. So what are your favorite powders and charge weights for 335/556 loads for a 55g fmjbt? Thanks

P.S. I know about working loads up.

Oh my twist is 1-9 on a 16"

    For 55gr, I use 25.0gr H335. For 77gr, I use 24.5gr Varget.

I've used most of the common 223 powders and nothing beats Tac IME.

          I like WW748 for 55gr and Varget for 69 and 77gr.

          26.5gr is a good starting point for WW748 under a 55gr (COAL = 2.235")

          24gr is a good starting point for Varget under a 69gr (COAL = 2.250")

          23.5gr is a good start point for Varget under a 77gr (COAL = 2.255")

My final worked up loads are 1 grain hotter than the charge weights I recommended for starting.

When I use up my H-335, I'm likely going to try XBR8208 for my .223. It seems to work well in the .223, the 308 Win. and can be used in 30/06 with 150-165 gr. bullets.

Varget is better in the 30/06/ .308 with heavier bullets, but XBR8208 meters better than Varget. XBR8208 is also an ADI powder like Varget is, with a burn rate that fits in the IMR4895 area.

I've been using XBR8208 in the .308 Win. with good results. I will also try it in the .223 Rem., but haven't had the time yet.

To see how it compares with other powders, the Hodgdon reloading site has a very large amount of data to look at. It includes Hodgdon, IMR and winchester powder data and is a very good on line source.

                    55gr. 223rem = 24.5gr of H335
                    55gr. 223rem = 24.5gr of 2230

Both of those loads will produce decent accuracy with a 1moa/65moa red dot/ring eotech.

                      Varget... Nuff said...

I've been loading 25.5 grains with 62gr projectiles. You can go as higher, though, according to some loading data....

H335 or BLC2 have been in my best performing reloads. Both burn clean and give consistent performance.
