    reloading for Grendel

Anybody here reload for 6.5 grendel. I am taking the plunge and am about start loading some rounds with the Lapua brass I have. I have 129 gr Hornady spire point (not SST) and I don't see any load data at the grendel forums. Anybody Have any powder recommendations or load data . (I have win 748, Varget, AA1680, and IMR 4198,4064,4895)

I also see Load data for heavier bullets with my powder avail. Am I correct in that I can substitute a lighter bullet using that load data? Thanks for the help. I am new to loading for cartridges without much established load data.

LoadData.com has data for that bullet in 6.5Grendel with AAC-2250.

Wt. | Bullet | Powder Manufacturer | Powder

    129 | Hornady SST | Accurate | AAC-2520

I've been thinking about paying the $29 a year for their site to get the data, and seeing the review / Advertisement artice in the last Blue Press, I'm really thinking about it again, as many loads for the 500S&W and .50 Beowulf are newer than my reloading manuals.

If I were you, I'd call up your powder manufacturer you want to use, and the bullet Mfg. for load data over the phone. I was very lucky with that before.

Do not load outside of the data. If you don't have a book showing what you can load then call up both the bullet manufacturer and the powder manufacturer and find out what they recommend. The last thing you want is to damage something because of a simple error that could have been corrected.

All that said, I have made up some wildcat rounds for 30 carbine because all the data was for either the 30 carbine rifle or the Ruger Blackhawk and I was making them for a buddy's 30 Carbine AMT 1911 style pistol and those loads wouldn't cycle the gun right or they would just make big fireballs in front of the muzzle. Though nothing bad ever came of that experiment I would never do that again. It just wasn't a very smart or safe thing to do. awww, my 20's when stupidity ruled!!

Also note that the 6.5G has very little room for error. Often the bolt will break before any brass signs appear (ie flattened primers). This is not a round to push the limits with if you are using an AR platform.

Very true. I do not deviate much from the factory data, if at all. I would take the original question to:

few guys there that have tried many things and would tell you what works and what doesn't.

guess I should have clarified. I will not be shooting these in the AR platform I am having ASI convert my Mini-30 to 6.5 grendel. I am also asking here as the 65grendel site is slow to respond to NOOB questions apparently

Putting a 6.5 Grendel (long range, precision round) into a Mini 30 (short range, accurate as a pitched baseball) seems like a strange combination.

Do you plan on shooting long range with this gun?

I just saw your two posts. 65Grendel.com doesn't move very fast, the guys that know their stuff sometimes only post once or twice a week and rarely on weekends, so it is not because you are a noob.

If you haven't read this thread, it may be somewhat of a start:

I am sure it is something like this and has very little common with a Mini by the time they are done.

Should be accurate if bedded properly.

Oh yeah I am hoping it is nothing like the mini-30 when It gets back. I am having the full conversion done on it with a .750 barrel, pillar bedded, 3.5# trigger with a 20 inch douglas stainless barrel. and yes I would like to see what I can wring out of it at longer ranges

Well, have fun. That's why we play with all the exotic cartridges.

To me, it's like putting an afterburner on a turtle but different tastes are what makes the world interesting.

Just curious, but how does one "pillar bed" an action that uses no action screws?

Pathfinder- scroll down on this page and it will show you- they drill through the action and also insert threaded pillars into the stock
