I want something that uses the full potential of the 10mm without using something that will go through meat, then a wall, then a car door and then through some more meat. Has anyone used the Doubletap 135grn Nosler on pigs or goats or anything that would show real life performance? Does the bullet stay together? How much penetration did you get? I won't be using the round for hunting but hunting is a good place to guage performance.

There was a thread saying 10 mm suck or something. There was a guy posted a pig shot with a 10mm in that thread."Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

THe reason the 10mm sucked in the comparison thread was because he chose the weakest possible 10mm rounds that are possible. They were loaded to be easy shooting, which put them at power levels LOWER than a .40s&w commercial load.
If you want something that cooks, sit a 180grn hornady XTP on top of 12.3 grns of Blue Dot. Go up and down about .8 grains from there, .1 grains at a time to dial in the sweet-spot for your pistol. That'll be a pig-wrecker. (mind you, this is on the rather hot end, so you may start a grain or 2 lower if you aren't sure if your gun can handle it.)
Penetration of solids should be amazing, Hollow points mostly open on soft targets, while still punching through solid wood. A hot loaded 10mm is a beast.Originally posted by greasemonkey1911's instill fairy dust in the bullets, making them more deadly.Comment

Naw there's good stock loads out there. Which is what he's asking for. I agree with your assesment of the article though."Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

Real 10mm rounds are some of the most powerful you will find in a semi-auto pistol. It is extremely versatile and allows you to shoot the small grain weight for a laser load as well as the heavies for maximum punch.
So you need to figure out what exactly you are loading up for. For hunting, go for the heavies. Apartment self defense, go with the lightweight hollow points. Needing something for double duty, meet somewhere in the middle.
10mm is by far my favorite handgun round because of its versatility. DoubleTap, Buffalo Bore, and others make excellent full power loads for all of the above."Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Proponents of the 10mm will tell you that is EXACTLY what it will do, in addition to vaporizing anything within 10 meters of the bullet's path.

You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

I'm going to bump this rather than start a new thread and look like a meganoob:
I've wanted to possibly get some doubletap 200 or 230gr hardcast 10mm rounds for my G20 when I'm backpacking in beast territory, but I have a few questions:
a)I looked for doubletap on the "friendly" to-california shipping companies thread but didn't see them. Are they on there? Will they even ship to us? I'm sure someone will point to page 1 or 2 of that thread and make me look like an absolute dolt.
b)Will my G20 stock barrel handle a load that serious or should I get say one of the KKM precision barrels to drop into the G20 when shooting the really hot/heavy rounds?
c)Are hardcast rounds illegal in CA? I never hear/read anyone talking about them, nor have I really seen them at gun shops but I also don't often look for those kinds of rounds.Comment

Sweet, thanks for the info.
And yeah, georgia arms seems to have some killer pricing on 10mm, thanks for that. I don't see any hardcast stuff on their site in 10mm but for bulk FMJs $200/500ct is a great price. I'm used to paying way more. Going to the local stores and paying $34-$37/50ct for f'ing blazer hurts pretty bad. And the only reason I do it is because finding 10mm anything is a chore in itself. I think I've personally cleaned all the stores around here out of 10mm. But with that being said I've been reading the reloading threads pretty attentively as of late.Comment

Bass pro has some factory 10mm ammo. But it's too expensive IMO.
Reloading is the way to go, because it costs almost the same as reloading .40s&w. It uses the same powders and bullets, and often the same dies. 10mm has large pistol instead of small pistol primers and takes a bit more powder in each case (by choice mostly lol). I've seen what "normal" 10mm will do from a factory load, and I've seen handloaded stuff that pushes above most of the written recipes (woof, G20 is a beast with very hot loads)Originally posted by greasemonkey1911's instill fairy dust in the bullets, making them more deadly.Comment
