Best long range bullet for 7mm-08

So I am looking to get into silhouette shooting with my match 7mm-08. So the question is: What is the "best" long range bullet for reloading for the 7mm-08

What's best in my 7mm-08's won't necessarily be best in yours... mine likes Barnes MRX and Nosler Accubond... you need to work up your own loads, regardless of what others say works for them.

Rookie mistake I suppose? haha. Well, I'm just looking for a starting point I guess. I went to order supplies online and stopped and was like ocrap... I have no clue what to order. I hear heavier is best for higher BC.

The "best" LR bullet for 7mm is likely the 180 Berger VLD or Hybrid. The "best" for silhouette is probably a bit lighter, with a corresponding reduction in recoil.

I'd agree with this if you were shooting a .284 or other large 7mm cartridge.

I use the 162 AMAX in my 7-08 for steel and 1000 yard matches. Works extremely well. At 2650 fps it has no problem knocking over rams at 500 meters, and doesn't have a lot of felt recoil.

Another bullet I've used that is incredibly accurate out to 385 meters is the Speer 145gr BTSP at 2800 fps. But it lacks the ballistics to be suitably accurate out to 500 meters.

Good stuff, you have load data on either of these by any chance? Someone else mentioned the Berger 180 VLD... and while I know that's a great bullet isn't it a bit heavy for 7mm-08?

Also, where are you getting your AMAX? Everywhere I look they are sold out.
